Principal’s Message

St John the Apostle Catholic Primary School (St John’s) is located in the suburb of Narraweena, between Beacon Hill and Dee Why on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. Our school motto, “Strength and Gentleness” is a wonderful legacy from the Brigidine Sisters who were appointed as the first teachers at our school when it began in 1962.
St Francis de Sales is quoted as saying “There is nothing so strong as gentleness, and nothing so gentle as real strength”. These characteristics are evident in the life of Jesus and we strive to emulate them.

Our main task as a Catholic school is to bring children to a commitment to be disciples of Jesus. It is a task that we work towards together with parents every day.

Academically, our students are provided with a broad and rich curriculum with many excellent learning opportunities. We strongly believe in providing an all-round education catering for the academic, emotional, social, physical and spiritual needs of the children. We are blessed with a talented and dedicated staff who have created a safe, caring and quality environment for learning and playing. Our parent body is very involved in all aspects of our school, and provides us with much needed physical and financial support. We also believe in the importance of building a learning community that involves everyone – staff, parents and children.

As one of the first primary schools in the Diocese of Broken Bay to take on the ‘Shared Wisdom’ model of governance through having a School Advisory Council, we are now in the fortunate position of having a well-formed and enthusiastic School Advisory Council to assist with the leadership of the school.
