Principal’s Message

St John the Apostle Catholic Primary School (St John’s) is located in the suburb of Narraweena, between Beacon Hill and Dee Why on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. Our school motto, “Strength and Gentleness” comes from the Brigidine Sisters who were appointed as the first teachers at our school when it began in 1962.
St Francis de Sales is quoted as saying “There is nothing so strong as gentleness, and nothing so gentle as real strength”. These virtues provide a wonderful touchstone for the way in which we live and serve in this community.

Our main task as a Catholic school is to offer ways for our children to connect with our key values. It is through the experiences they encounter within our Catholic and wider community that we can achieve this.

Academically, we strive to authentically engage our students in meaningful learning experiences. We strongly believe in nurturing the social and emotional wellbeing of each child. We are blessed with a dedicated, professional staff who strive to create a respectful, responsible and safe environment in which the children can thrive. We see parents and carers as partners in learning and we seek to engage them in the life of our school.

We have a Parents and Friends group focused on building community, helping with fundraising and supporting our School Improvement Plan. We have an Advisory Council composed of parents and staff whose role it is to act as stewards of our Mission and Vision and as advisers to the principal school leadership team. Both groups are able to organise various subcommittees to assist in their role.

Enjoy your wanderings throughout our website.

With sincere best wishes,

Mark Bateman
