The ‘Seasons for Growth Program’ is offered to St John’s children each year.
It is a peer support process where young people can explore and understand what happens when they experience significant change and loss in their lives eg parental separation, divorce, death, illness or the passing away of someone that they were very close to.
It is a program that follows the four seasons (Summer, Spring, Winter, Autumn) and it incorporates different forms of learning e.g. prayer circles, reflective art activities, discussions, dance, singing etc.
Children learn about change and how this is a natural part of life and that there are others who often experience similar changes.
The “Rock & Water” program is a well-known social skills program designed primarily for children and teenagers. The program focuses on teaching young people a combination of physical and emotional skills that promote self-awareness, self-confidence, communication, and conflict resolution.
Some key components and principles of the Rock & Water program are respect, self-confidence, safety, self-control, social skills, body awareness, assertiveness, self-awareness and emotional awareness.
At St John’s students in Years 5 & 6 participate in once-a-week lessons over a term where they engage in a variety of physical activities designed to build their emotional and communication skills. Students are given an opportunity to reflect on the lesson and discuss ways it may help them in their lives.
